Need to identify a component on an Acer Laptop - no longer charges battery, chip destroyed?

Q) I have a laptop Acer Aspire 5601 AWLMi - motherboard unknown but some labels are shown in one of the pictures - e.g. ZB2MB6E5 seems possible. A chip in the inverter that deals with the battery has blown up and it's type is no longer readable and I want to find out what it is so I can repair the board. Acer laptop keyboard/mouse freezing when battery connected!?

Q) I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop that's just over a year old. A few days ago (for no reason) that touchpad/mouse pad started freezing or moving the cursor irratically. Also the keyboard stopped working, although some keys worked if you really thumped them. If i plugged in a USB mouse, that would work fine! Eventually i took out the battery, and this solved the problem! If i put the battery back in, the problem returns! I cant see how the battery would affect the laptop in this way!? please can anybody advise, as i dont want to buy a new battery for no reason!!

A) try with a small brush to clean between and under the keys sometimes dirt can get trapped. if you are trying to run too many programmes at once it can cause it freezes. good luck hope it helps

A) it sounds like u have been using it a little on the battery then charging it or constantly charging it, u need to learn ur battery by letting it go completely dead and fully charging it, u need to do this numerous numerous times i am talking 20 times or better, slowly u will see it lasting longer and longer or u can just go buy a battery, to prevent this from happening u need to let the battery run down to atleast 20% life and fully charge it.

Acer laptop it has built in wireless, when disconnect mains power and run on battery I lose my connection?

Q) I have an Acer laptop, it has built in wireless, I am connecting to a BT Voyager router, my connection is great when I have the mains power lead plugged in, when I disconnect the power lead I lose the wireless connection straight off.

A) The reason for this is there is a setting to turn off connection when you are running on battery power. It is designed to save power, but if you want to keep connection even after coming of the mains use this: Start>Control Panel>(Vista) Network and Internet, untick box >(XP) Network Connections, and untick box

A) remove the little lid where the ram is look closley its hidden on the left under the shassi cover its a bit small ,be carefull dont drop it inside the pc .. use a tweasers or somthin

What are the best brand of laptop for battery life out of Acer, compaq and toshiba? (all models around £500)?

A) Compaq supposedly has the best battery life of those 3 but supposedly Toshiba has better screen/graphics capabilities. I have a Toshiba Sattelite A105 and default battery is about 3 hours, but the factory usually comes with smaller battery lives, batteries are easy to find though. I would just get one that has the best performance Specs and appears to work best for what you want to do with it, then do even a google search for "Cheap laptop batteries" or check the manufacturer's website or even local computer shops. Somewhere you should find an affordable replacement for the model you get if you're not completely satisfied with the factory battery. It's hard to find a perfect computer unless you have it custom built regardless of what type of computer it is.

Laptop battery life?

Q) I am just about to buy a laptop and thinking of an Acer Aspire or Toshiba. However their batt life seems less than other makes but good spec. Can you retro fit larger batteries or can you carry a second battery on long journeys and easily swop them your self?

Can anyone help with a laptop power problem?

Q) I've got an Acer laptop and its started messing about. It will only charge from the mains when its switched off. As soon as I boot up it takes the power from the battery, which doesn't last long. Then I have to switch off again to let it charge up. Any ideas? PC World said they didn't know.

As far as I know Acer decided they weren't affected by the great Sony battery problem.

Dead Laptop, Please Help?

Q) My laptop (acer 2410) is completely dead, no lights, no fans. Power lead is giving the right volts (tested with multi meter) have tried with and without the battery on and still no luck any ideas?

A) Sorry to say it but at a guess you main board is dead. It more than likely is something on the power side and therefore not that expensive to fix by an Elctronics repair company (as a first stop( thats if its not under warranty))

Why does my brand new laptop keep shutting down?

Q) Got myself a new laptop "acer 5051" last week and it keeps randomly switching off. When i go to switch it back on the power lights come on for 2 secs then go straight off again. This happens whilst on mains and battery power. If i leave it for a few hours then it will sometimes come back on. I am an IT Technician and think this could be a component overheating but just wanted a second opinion before having to send it back. Thanks.

A) send it back it could be anything from an overheat to hdd problem let them figure it out

A) Hey, u r getting more than normal battery life. Avtually it depends upon the Cell of the battery, The more the cell, the more the battery can run, Generally a 6 cell battery (as in mine case) runs for 2hrs 15 min. The 9 cell battery might last somewht 3 hrs or so. So ur battery is runnning enough. No need to buy a battery right now. its enough. Thanx

A) It could be that one of the power tines is stuck in the battery housing or the battery has leaked due to one of many reasons. If the battery has leaked it can chemically fuse the plastic like glue. I recommend taking it into a professional immediately.

Is my laptop battery dying too fast?

Q) I just bought my laptop (Acer Aspire 3680) back in March. When I first got it I didn't use it all that much. But after I got the Sims 2 I constantly played it on the laptop with the battery plugged in. I would even keep the cord in after it was fully charged. I would have no idea when the critical levels would come b/c when you are playing a game you can't see or hear the warnings. So in that case it would get discharged pretty fast, have to recover the info, then recharge it back to 100% and keep it in. That was fine and dandy a few weeks ago but now when I unplug it I hangs around 100-99% for a while and immediately drops to 94%. And this is within a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Have I messed up my battery with all that nonsense? Now it seems as if I can't get a full charge anymore. This may sound silly but is there a way to recover that lost 6% or is it gone for good? I just learned that I could have ran it off the power w/o the battery plugged in. Is it better to charge while its shutdown and take out the battery when not in use after its charged?

A) No worries about that 6%. What's important is how long the battery will last before the computer shuts off. Laptop batteries don't have a memory like the old NiCads used to. So cycling them won't really do much good. And how long a battery lasts is dependent on how much power you are using. CPU speed/Disk usage/Brightness level of your display all effect battery life. Don't listen to the manfacturer, they will always tell you a number that isn't realistic. Let's just say you are watching a movie off the hard drive (No DVD) it's should last around an hour to an hour and a half depending how big your battery is.

Q) Thinking of getting an acer but concerned about battery life

A) I have an acer aspire 3003. Its the worst laptop ever. Yes they are cheap. Mine was only $850 before circuit city rebates(2 years ago). At first I was impressed with what the computer had. It had 512mb of memory, 80g hard drive, and a decent graphics card. Now to the negatives. My computer's touchpad gets hot fast. I had to mail my computer to Texas b/c my cooling fan went out after 11 and a half months. Luckily it got to Texas before the warranty expired. My battery life was horrible. When it was new, it was only an hour. Now I'm lucky to have my computer on for 13 minutes unplugged. I also have a dead pixel on the screen. My computer was taken care of, used on a computer desk, or on lap when I was at school. My cd drive no longer works. I am getting errors when I want to update my virus scan, java, windows,itunes(ipod),adobe,nokia cell phone software, etc. Each error is the same as the error I get when I try to use the cd drive. The computer didn't come with any software useful for a college student. As for virus software it came with a norton trial which I deleted and installed mcafee which i run 3x a week and so far I'm thankful to not have any viruses. which is surprising for how crappy my computer runs. I only have 2 weeks left to use my computer b/c I have a dell coming in the mail. Although I am having problems with my acer, not all are as bad. I know I don't recommend them, but they are a decent budget laptop for someone who needs a computer and doesn't have the money for a more expensive one. Just make sure you search and read the reviews on the any computers that you are thinking about buying. Compare specs, look for bargains, etc. Good luck with your computer search.

How is the battery life on Acer Aspire 5610-2966?

Q) I recently bought a new acer laptop (Acer Aspire 5610-2966), but I still have not opened the seal (I can return it for a full refund for another 7 days). Reviews online on this particular Acer is limited, but it seems that other Acer laptop systems have very poor battery life issues. Does anyone have first hand experience on how the battery life is on this system (how many hours)? Thank you very much. The specs say 3 hours, but a few reviews complained about battery life, and one in particular said that it is only 1 hour. Since there were very few reviews that I found, I was wondering if others experienced the same poor battery life? Thank you.
